Abstract	Computer output microfilm (COM) is a method of converting data from a computer directly into human readable language on microfilm. This monograph provides an overview of the COM field including a general review of COM technology, a state-of-the-art summary, an equipment guide, a directory of systems service companies, a review of several COM applications, the results of a National Microfilm Association (NMA) survey of the field, proposed NMA standards, a glossary of terms, and a bibliography. It points out that COM has an output potential equal to that of 30 impact printers operating simultaneously and that COM is capable of recording not only alphanumeric characters but also computer graphics. The equipment guide section lists the COM readers available from the 21 companies now in the field and supplies specifications and illustrations of these devices insofar as information about them is available. The directory of systems service centers lists almost 100 service centers operated by some 50 companies, first in an alphabetical directory by company names and then in a geographical index. (JY)
